How to Save Money Managing Your Mommy Blog

Parenting, as great as it can be, is also very difficult. That’s why many mothers all around the world have found solace in starting their own mommy blog. You shouldn’t think, however, that owning and managing a mommy blog must be expensive. In fact, you can host and manage one without spending a dime, if you are willing to put up with a hosted domain name and limited features.

If you want to have a truly functioning and successful mommy blog, without spending a small fortune, however, you need to follow this guide:

Find a Theme

Premium themes can cost anywhere from $10 to $100, however your theme doesn’t need to have all the bells and whistles that, say, an international magazine does. It just has to look good and do what you need it to do. If you find a free theme that fits the bill, that’s great! If not, don’t worry – themes are a one-time cost that will make your side-project more fun.

Create the Branding Yourself

Professionals and companies alike will hire illustrators to create the perfect banners and logos for their sites. With time and effort, however, it can be easy for you to create a banner without spending any money. It’s also important to note that the most engaged content online is genuine content. The day of using stock image photography is over – people recognize these images and they come across as fake. Instead, use your own photo and video.

The trick to taking great photo and video – even if it’s on your phone – is lighting. You can do a lot with an iPhone photo, for instance, so long as the image is well lit. You can use lamps, or even create your own light boxes that will diffuse light and make portraits, items, and food look great.

Market for Free

Contrary to popular belief, it is possible to market your blog without spending money. It takes a lot of time and effort, of course, but it can be done. What’s more is that when you market yourself this way you create a more organic, genuine community.

Market yourself by starting an Instagram and Facebook page, along with any other social media accounts you feel comfortable using. You can also join mommy groups in your area, make friends, and create content together. The mommy blog niche is a great one, because all moms go through the same struggles and like knowing that they aren’t the only one.

There are many ways to market yourself for free, but generally all you need to do is to be friendly, communicative, and engage in the online mommy community.

Mommy blogs aren’t just ways to waste your time or even to make money. They are useful for reflection, documentation, and to even make friends. The last thing moms should do is isolate themselves after having children, but their old, childless friends won’t accurately know what they are going through. That’s why you need to meet new people and make new connections – and you can do this through your blog.

Zero in on Happiness & Gratitude-#AtoZChallenge

It is very easy to focus on the negative side of things, everything that is going wrong that day and how many things you didn’t get done that day.

Try to focus on what you are grateful for all of the thing you have in your life that makes you happy. Look outside and see the beautiful flowers or watch your kids play that will make anyone smile.

Could you, therefore, work miracles, you could not do more for yourself than by this thankful spirit;for it heals with a word speaking, and turns all that it touches into happiness.-William Law

Gratitude unleashes the freedom to live content in the moment, rather than being anxious about the future or regretting the past.-Ellen Vaughn

One is not always happy when one is good;but one is always good when one is happy.-Oscar Wilde

Now and then it’s good to pause in our pursuit of happiness and just be happy-Guillaume Appollinaire

Smile and be happy life is short and time goes by really fast enjoy life. Plus when you smile you make other people smile. Have the attitude of gratitude-be thankful.

I have really enjoyed the A to Z Challenge. I hope you have enjoyed all of the posts.

Young & The Restless-#AtozChallenge

I have been watching Young & The Restless for so long I don’t remember when I started watching it. It is the only soap opera I watch.  The Young & The Restless has been on air for 40 years, that is amazing for a soap opera.

I really enjoy all of the drama of the soap opera. There are a couple of things I don’t like about them though; they don’t let couples stay happy for very long they always have to break them up and the children grow up it seems overnight. One day they are toddler and the next episode they are coming back from college and are adults.

I love that some of the characters have been on there since the beginning or close to it. Victor and Nikki have been married so many times I can’t even remember. They always have interesting story lines.

It is the one show I look forward to everyday during the week. If I am not home I make sure to record it and it is especially nice if I can watch it in peace and quiet which only happens if the kids are both in school. My husband even knows the characters and ask me what is going on.

Do you have a show that you look forward to watching everyday?

Walgreens-#AtoZChallenge

Hopefully you have a Walgreens near you, it is a great place to shop and you can get some great deals.

The first thing to do when you go into Walgreens is get a monthly coupon book. A new booklet comes out every month with new coupons. They are usually right by the door with the ads. The coupons in the booklet are Walgreens coupons so you can use them with manufacturer coupons and get some great deals.

You also need to sign up for a Balance Rewards card, you have to have the card in order to get the sale prices. You can sign up at the register or online. You can check your balance using the Walgreens app or look on the bottom of your receipt.  You can also earn points by filling prescriptions and getting immunizations.

This week’s ad has many items you can buy that you will earn balance rewards on. Buy 2 select Crest Pro Health/Oral B items and you earn 4000 points which equals $4 and there is many more items you can buy to earn reward points.

Here is a table explaining the points and what amount they equal.

10,000 points = $10
18,000 points = $20
30,000 points = $35
40,000 points = $50

Walgreens ad sometimes has Walgreens coupons in you can cut out and use with manufacturer coupons with them and get some great deals.

Understanding Store Policies-#AtoZChallenge

It is important to know the store’s coupon policy. Most of the stores you shop at have their coupon policy on their website. I carry a binder for my coupons so I print the coupon policies of the stores that I shop at and I keep them in my binder.

I like having them with me that way if I try using a coupon and the cashier tries to argue with me about it I can just pull out their coupon policy and show them where in their policy it states I can use the coupon.

It is also good to know your store refund policy that way if you want to return something you know the amount of time you have to return it and if you need the receipt.

Companies do change their policies also so make sure you check and update the policies as needed.

Target-#AtoZChallenge

I enjoy shopping and Target is one of my favorite places to shop. I get alot of great deals there, I just went shopping there today and saved $25.

Look at their ad to see what is on sale. You can print coupons on Target’s website, you can use the Target coupons and manufacturer coupons together to get really great deals. Target also has great clearance, checkout end caps for great prices. Target often has gift card deals, you will see them in the ad. This week they have several gift card deals, buy two selected up & up (Target brand) items and you will get a $5 gift card. You can’t use the gift card on the purchase where you earn the gift card but you can save it for your next trip to Target.

Target has debit red card that you earn 5% off every purchase. The purchase comes right out of your checking account like a regular debit card. You also get free shipping on Target.com.

You can also sign up for mobile coupons and they will text you coupons, when you want to use them just pull up the bar code on your phone and the cashier can scan it. You can sign up here.

If you bring in reusable bags they will give you 5 cents back for each bag you use.

Before I go shopping I check Totally Target she lists out deals, clearance and more. Hip2Save is a great website and she posts Target deals every week. These websites are great and will tell you what is on sale, what coupons to use and the final price.

So you don’t get bombarded my emails you can set up a separate email to sign up on the survey websites.

Here are some of the survey websites that I take surveys on:

Toluna

Clear Voice Surveys

American Consumer Opinion

Harris Poll Online

Opinion Square

Vindale Research

Pinecone Research-I make the most form this company. $3 a survey and you can sometimes get chosen to try a product and do a survey

It can get overwhelming how many emails you get , that is why I suggest setting up a different email. Also just do them when you have some extra time.

Necessities-stock up-#AtoZChallenge

Have you ever had to run out to the store late at night because you were out of toilet paper, shaving cream, shampoo etc?

I use to do that a lot until I started to stockpile stuff that we used on a daily basis. Plus if you buy the items when they are sale and use a coupon you won’t pay full price. I look at the Sunday Coupon Preview so I know what coupons are in the paper. If there are good coupons on item I use daily I buy multiple papers and wait for a good sale and buy more than one of the items.

I stock up on health & beauty stuff-shampoo, conditioner, razors, deodorant, hair spray, body wash, etc. I use those items everyday and I get great deals on them. I also stock up on toilet paper, paper towels, napkins and kleenex. None of them expire and I always have them on hand.

I also stock up on canned goods, they have a long shelf life. You can start a list of the food that you eat consistently and stock up on those items but only buy enough items that you can get through before it expires.

Start to stock up now.

List Out Inventory-#AtoZChallenge

Sorry I got out of order on the AtoZ Challenge. I just got ahead of schedule. I will be back on track tomorrow.

Anyway back to the letter L.

Have you every went to the grocery store and got back home to put it  away and found you already had that item? I know I have. It is hard to remember everything you have. I have a chest freezer and a side by side freezer. I can’t very easily see what I have. Especially in the chest freezer things fall down to the bottom.

I list out the inventory I have in the freezers. Here is the form I use. You can tape it right on your freezer, there is also the option to laminate it that way you can reuse the form by just wiping it off. It comes in really handy but you have to keep it updated for the system to work.

Before you go shopping check the inventory list that way you don’t buy something you already have, it will save you some money.
