Budget Bride: Cutting the Cost of Your Big Day!

Your wedding day is always going to be the one of the biggest and most special days of your life. However there’s no escaping the fact that it can cost an absolute fortune, with the price of weddings rising year on year. But if you don’t have the money (or inclination) to fork out on one extravagant day, it doesn’t mean to say you can’t still have a wonderful celebration. There are lots of great hacks and even things you can do yourself that slash costs dramatically. Here are a few you could consider!

Do Your Own Flowers

Flowers are an important part of weddings, and beautiful blooms can decorate the space and really tie things together with the colours and styles you choose. However they’re always going to cost a significant amount, and some brides can find this difficult to justify as they’re not really something you can keep. You can have a few bouquets dried and save them in a memory box or frame your dried bridal bouquet, but there’s no escaping that lots of flowers will simply go to waste after the event. So cutting costs here is something you could consider, and one option you might not have thought about is growing your own. If you’re getting married in a year or two, it gives you time to plant up and grow your own stunning flowers. Things like roses and lilies are easy to grow but incredibly expensive to buy. Even growing a few yourself is worthwhile as you can bulk out your bouquets with cheaper varieties or even wildflowers that you can pick yourself.

Find a Second Hand Wedding Dress

Most brides dream of getting married in a stunning dress, but this is usually the thing that really blows the budget. If it’s really important to you to wear a certain type of gown or a certain designer then it’s worth the investment. However if you’re more flexible then there are ways you can get those costs down. Lots of charity and thrift shops are given wedding dresses, so if you keep your eyes peeled you might just hit the jackpot and find something you really like. It will need to be somewhat close to your size for it to work, but a company like Stitch It can make it fit perfectly to your body like it was designed just for you! They can even dry clean your gown once you’re done too, so you could save it or give it back to charity for someone else to wear and enjoy.

Bake Your Own Cake

The cake is another pricey part of the day, you could choose to omit this altogether but if you want that tradisional element you do have options. First would be to bake your own, if you have the skills then it could be a fun project and wouldn’t cost you much at all. If a large cake is a little daunting, how about making tiers of wedding cupcakes instead, you can get gorgeous wedding cupcake cases online and go with simple yet effective decorating techniques. You could even cheat and use box mixes and follow the instructions, that way you’re guaranteed perfect cake and no will will know it’s a DIY job. Try out some different icing techniques and scour Pinterest for ideas.

3 Tips for Keeping Your Hair Healthy On a Budget

Regardless of how much money you have to spend on your appearance, everyone wants to look and feel good. For women especially, having beautiful, luxurious hair can go a long way toward making you feel happy and confident. However, it’s commonly thought that normal woman can’t have gorgeous hair if they can’t afford to spend hundreds of dollars at the salon and on beauty products each month. Luckily, you can have amazing hair without spending any more money than you already do on hair and beauty products. To show you how, here are three tips for keeping your hair healthy on a budget.

At-Home Remedies

To get unbelievable hair, you don’t necessarily have to get all the products you use from the beauty salon or the hair care aisles at the store. In fact, according to Trish Barber, a contributor to Reader’s Digest, there are lots of ordinary products that can work wonders for your hair. Some of these items are probably already in your kitchen or bathroom! Products like baking soda, mayo, vinegar, lemons, tea and more can all be used to make your hair look and feel healthier without really spending any extra money.

Getting The Right Humidity

One of the biggest factors for having lovely hair is humidity. With too much humidity, your hair get frizzy and fluffy. With too little humidity, your hair gets dry and brittle. And while you can use salon styling products to help with these problems, you can also fix these issues at home on the cheap.

To get more moisture into your hair, Nicole Catanese, a contributor to Cosmopolitan.com, suggests putting a large bowl of water by your bed while you sleep. As the night goes on, the water will evaporate into the air and increase the humidity in the room, subsequently increasing the moisture of your hair. If you have problems with frizz, try using a boar bristle brush while blow drying and make sure you get your entire head of hair dry from root to tip.

Know How to Maintain Your Hair

Having beautiful hair isn’t always about which products you use but the techniques in which you use them. For example, the writers at Stylist recommend checking out some of the basic rules of hair care and implementing them into your own routines. Some of these include washing your hair just two or three times per week, not taking hot showers, shampooing the roots while conditioning the ends, brushing dry hair twice a day and others. Because these tips don’t add any additional products, they won’t cost you a dime.

If you’ve had trouble getting gorgeous locks in the past but don’t want to add more to your hair care budget, try using the tips mentioned above to see massive improvements with your hair.

My Favorite Natural Health/Beauty Products

I am trying to switch all my health and beauty products to natural products. I have already switched all my household cleaners to natural, I love the fact my kids can help me clean and not worry about them inhaling all of the chemicals as they clean.  I have recently starting purchasing new health & beauty products that are natural.

I shop for most of the natural beauty products on Vitacost, which oh my gosh I love their website. I have a growing list of stuff that I still want to order. The awesome part of their website you can create a list and add products that you want to try and when you want to submit an order you just go into your list click the box next to the product and add it to your shopping bag. They also offer free shipping for orders over $50. I try to limit myself to just one order a month but it is hard there are so many products I want to try.

I also get some of the products at Target, they have small section of natural beauty products.

I recently went to Vegas for our ten year wedding anniversary. I was shopping at one of the shopping areas in one of the casinos and they had a Lush store which I have heard so many great things about. I bought a couple items from there.

Here are some of my favorite natural health & beauty products.

My New Favorite Beauty Products

One of my favorite things to buy is beauty products.  I shop a lot at Target and I also love Ulta. I like to try new products and sometimes I find products that I really like and will buy again. Here are a few products that I bought recently that I really like.

Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion– oh my gosh I wish I would have found about this product a long time ago. I found out about it from my blogger friend Angie over at Angie’s Angle. She has Makeup Monday and  gives great makeup tips. The eyeshadow primer keeps your eyeshadow on all day. Usually my eyeshadow would disappear at least half way through my day but not anymore now that I use Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion. I will continue to buy this it is a must have.

Aveeno Positively Radiant Tinted Moisturizer- I love using tinted moisturizer it is lightweight and covers imperfections. The Aveeno Tinted Moisturizer also has SPF 30, evens tones and texture. I would recommend it,  I really like it.

Urban Decay Naked Basics Eyeshadow Palette– I normally just buy whatever eyeshadow I could get on sale. I decided to splurge on this palette last time I went to Ulta. I love all of the eyeshadow colors they are all neutral which I really like and you can use multiple colors and really change up your look.

I would love to hear from you, what are some of your favorite beauty products you are using right now?
