Today the 31 days of Living Well Spending Zero started and today I signed the commitment and posted it on Instagram.
There is a ground rule sheet that you fill out showing:
- groceries/toiletry items you will be buying
- things you have committed to paying this month (utilities, mortgage, etc)
- things you absolutely can’t purchase this month
She has some suggestions on what to cut out for the month such as going out to eat at restaurants, coffee at coffee shops, cosmetics, etc.
So this morning I went online to my bank website and pulled up all of my transactions so I could see any monthly bills/charges that I could eliminate. I subscribe to two beauty boxes which I cancelled which will save $22 a month. I subscribe to Stitch Fix so I skipped my shipment for this month that saved me at least $20, I have to pay $20 to just get sent the box that covers the stylist fee plus I usually purchase at least one item out of the box. I also subscribed to another monthly subscription box that I cancelled that was $10 a month.
I get my dog his food online and I skipped this month’s shipment since I already have two bags so I won’t need any for at least 2 months. The cost would have been $39.50. I have also decided to cancel my newspaper delivery which is $11, I only get the paper on weekends and the only reason I got it was for the coupons. Kum & Go (gas station) offers a Des Moines Register for only $1 with a $20 gas purchase so I plan on getting my paper that way.
I plan on keeping track of every purchase I make this month. I think I am going to have a hard time not getting coffee at Starbucks. I usually go there at least once a week, but I have a Keurig machine and plenty of coffee at home that I can make.
I think this is going to be a tough challenge but I know it is going help me rethink my purchases.
