One of my goals/resolutions for the new year is to eat healthier and better. I was excited to read and review Skinny-Licious:Life and Scrumptious recipes for a slimmer you by Shauna Evans, RN.

She was on the 8 hour diet by David Zinczenco and created the recipes in this book for simple, quick,  easy and delicious recipes. Shauna has a degree in nursing and has an understanding in diet and fitness. She also list some great tips in the beginning of the book for successful weight loss. Here are a couple of them; when you have hunger pains do something else besides eating to distract you. Go for a short walk, call a friend or run an errand. When you think you are hungry, drink first. Drink ten cups of water per day; try to drink water before each meal. Make sure you get adequate sleep;when you are sleeping your body is doing important repair work.

The book is broken down into 5 different categories:

  • lunch
  • snacks
  • dinner
  • desserts
  • flavored and vitamin waters

In the first section: Lunch there are so many great recipes including smoothie recipes. I made the Turkey Cranberry Wraps, it was so delicious and very easy to make. I did leave out the cranberries and cheese. There is also Ham and Havarti Cheese Wraps that are great too. If you like ranch dressing there is even a recipe for Homemade Ranch Dressing in this section and so much more.

In the second section: Snacks My favorite recipe in this section is Cinnamon Sugar Chips with Fruit Salsa.  My kids even loved this and they are picky eaters. I also used the cinnamon sugar chips in ice cream and it tasted amazing. There are also several dip recipes in this section and more.

In the third section: Dinner I made the Classic Lasagna recipe and it was a hit with the family. There are a lot more recipes in this section that I want to try Cashew Chicken and the Stuffed Peppers. Plus there are so many more great recipes.

In the fourth section: Desserts which is my favorite part of dinner. Apple Betty which is like a apple crisp tastes amazing especially with a scoop of vanilla ice cream There is even a recipe for Vanilla Frozen Yogurt that you can make yourself.  I love Carrot Cake so I need to make Charlotte’s Carrot Cake recipe. I have marked tons of pages in this section of recipes that I want to make.

At the end of the book there is a great list of flavored water variations. I love cucumber water it is so refreshing. I get really tired of plain water so I will  be making flavored water which will help me drink my ten glasses of water a day.

I absolutely love this book it is full of great healthy recipes that your whole family will love.
