How I am Detoxing my life #DetoxYourLife

detox your life

I am sure everyone want to make their life better/healthier. Here are some ways I am detoxing my life/home.

Meditation–  I have just tried this once so far but I did download an app to help me. It is very hard to shut your mind off

Decluttering- Clutter stresses me out. I have a donation bin that I keep in my bedroom. Every time I find something that I don’t use or want anymore I put it in the bin. Once it is full I take it to Goodwill.

Spending Less– Money can be a very stressful thing to deal with. I have signed up for 31 Days of Living Well & Spending Zero challenge that starts October 1st.  I am hoping that it helps me rethink my spending/purchases.

Switching to natural products-  I already switched all of my cleaning products to all natural products. I have also been trying to slowly switching health & beauty products to more natural products.

Essential Oils- I just recently purchased a diffuser on Amazon and some essential oils. I have been diffusing them daily. I really like stress relief and health shield, to keep everyone healthy and me less stressed.

Candles/Air Fresheners– I use to purchase and have quite a few plugin air fresheners. Then I read several articles about all of the chemicals that are in them and released into the air. Same with candles so I am getting through my candles that I already have and then I will be switching to soy candles that don’t have all of the chemicals in them.

I teamed up with Oscar Health Insurance Company for their #DetoxYourLife project. I hope you find these tips helpful and be sure to check Oscar out for other detox posts for healthier living! What are you doing to detox your life?

Skinny-Licious-book review

One of my goals/resolutions for the new year is to eat healthier and better. I was excited to read and review Skinny-Licious:Life and Scrumptious recipes for a slimmer you by Shauna Evans, RN.

She was on the 8 hour diet by David Zinczenco and created the recipes in this book for simple, quick,  easy and delicious recipes. Shauna has a degree in nursing and has an understanding in diet and fitness. She also list some great tips in the beginning of the book for successful weight loss. Here are a couple of them; when you have hunger pains do something else besides eating to distract you. Go for a short walk, call a friend or run an errand. When you think you are hungry, drink first. Drink ten cups of water per day; try to drink water before each meal. Make sure you get adequate sleep;when you are sleeping your body is doing important repair work.

The book is broken down into 5 different categories:

  • lunch
  • snacks
  • dinner
  • desserts
  • flavored and vitamin waters

In the first section: Lunch there are so many great recipes including smoothie recipes. I made the Turkey Cranberry Wraps, it was so delicious and very easy to make. I did leave out the cranberries and cheese. There is also Ham and Havarti Cheese Wraps that are great too. If you like ranch dressing there is even a recipe for Homemade Ranch Dressing in this section and so much more.

In the second section: Snacks My favorite recipe in this section is Cinnamon Sugar Chips with Fruit Salsa.  My kids even loved this and they are picky eaters. I also used the cinnamon sugar chips in ice cream and it tasted amazing. There are also several dip recipes in this section and more.

In the third section: Dinner I made the Classic Lasagna recipe and it was a hit with the family. There are a lot more recipes in this section that I want to try Cashew Chicken and the Stuffed Peppers. Plus there are so many more great recipes.

In the fourth section: Desserts which is my favorite part of dinner. Apple Betty which is like a apple crisp tastes amazing especially with a scoop of vanilla ice cream There is even a recipe for Vanilla Frozen Yogurt that you can make yourself.  I love Carrot Cake so I need to make Charlotte’s Carrot Cake recipe. I have marked tons of pages in this section of recipes that I want to make.

At the end of the book there is a great list of flavored water variations. I love cucumber water it is so refreshing. I get really tired of plain water so I will  be making flavored water which will help me drink my ten glasses of water a day.

I absolutely love this book it is full of great healthy recipes that your whole family will love.

You can purchase Skinny-Licious for $21.99 on Cedar Fort’s website.

Cedar Fort has a huge selection of books to choose from.

I received the above book in exchange for a review.  I only recommend products that I use and believe my readers will like.. I am disclosing this in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission’s 16 CFR, Part 255: “Guides Concerning the Use of Endorsements and Testimonials in Advertising.

Week 51 Frumpy to Fabulous-PMS Week Can Be Your Fat Loss Week

In the week before your menstrual cycle you retain 5 pounds of water, feel tired, feel fat and you just want to sweat pants or something stretchy and give into your cravings.

Your body releases it’s own fat burner hormone during this week so it is an optimal time to exercise.

You need to be more focused and push through your workouts during this week. If you workout hard during this week you will notice a difference after your cycle is over.

On an average 28 day cycle

Day 1-12: aim for speedier cardio. fast and intense workouts

Day 13-15: your estrogen levels plummet and your muscles get less oxygen

Day 16-28: long steady cardio, estrogen begins to creep up but progesterone triggers the body to store fat. Go longer and at a steady pace

So basically really focus and make sure you get your workouts in even if the last thing you want to do is exercise.

I hope you are enjoying the Frumpy to Fabulous series. If you have missed any previous weeks you can see them all on the Frumpy to Fabulous Pinterest Board.

Welcome to Week 49 of the Frumpy to Fabulous series, this week’s habit change is to eat hormone free animal protein.

Most food processors use growth hormones, corn feed and antibiotics to feed their livestock to help the animals get on the market faster. So we end up consuming the growth hormones and antibiotics.

Grass-fed beef is richer in heart healthy, omega 3 fats.

We need high quality protein at almost every meal. Protein that has not been contaminated by chemicals and more.

Proteins are found in both animal and vegetable sources.

Do you purchase hormone free meat?

I hope you are enjoying the Frumpy to Fabulous series, if you have missed any previous weeks you can see them all on the Frumpy to Fabulous Pinterest Board.

People say don’t go grocery shopping when you are hungry but you also should have a list when you go shopping. Without a list it is really easy to go over budget and buy a lot of food you didn’t even plan on buying.

Here are some tips:

  • Make a weekly meal plan
  • make a daily meal plan
  • stay on the outside perimeter at the supermarket
  • avoid the inner isles of the store
  • if you eat the peel buy organic
  • choose grass fed and hormone free meat

You can print  a clean eating grocery list here.

Week 29 Frumpy to Fabulous-Weed Recognition

Welcome to Week 29 of the Frumpy to Fabulous series this week’s habit change is Weed Recognition-cut off people who don’t support you

Some people want to see you succeed and other people want you to fail. You know that friend that says they support you but than ask you “So how much longer are you going to do this diet thing?” Just tell them I’m not on a diet , I eat healthy.

It can cost friendships and marriages, you want to surround yourself with people who truly do support you.

If they don’t support you, then you cut them out

If it’s important to you, it should be important to them

Taking control of your health, so you’re not a burden to others in the future

Choosing a healthy lifestyle to set an example for your children

If you are an organ donor you need to take care of your body so someday you can help others attain better health

Your body is your permanent home. Raise the rent and evict those not willing to pay

I hope you are enjoying the Frumpy to Fabulous series, if you have missed any previous weeks you can check them out on the Frumpy to Fabuolous Pinterest board.
