Marriage is a lot of work, it definitely takes effort but is worth every second. I have been married for over nine years and we have two kids. Before kids it was a lot easier to spend time together just us, after kids it is definitely harder sometimes just to have conversations let alone have one on one time.

I got the chance to read and review The Two Minute Marriage Project by Heidi Poelman.

The key themes in the book are:

The importance of perspective

The power of loving words

Little deeds that make a big difference

Learning how to handle conflict

The Two Minute Marriage Project is such a great book that all married couples should read. There are 60 million married couples in the United States. After each chapter there are Two Minute Action Steps to complete and repeat. I like how she tells you to write some of your thoughts and answers to the action steps. It gives you time to think about what you can do to make your marriage better.

It is hard just to choose a couple of the points to tell you about because they were all great but here are a few:

Your Happiness is My Happiness-Your spouse’s happiness is connected to our Happiness. Our thoughts affect our marriage. Try to focus on the positives and that will benefit your marriage.

Power of Loving Words- I know it sounds simple but just telling your spouse that you love them everyday. Makes them feel loved. Give your spouse compliments such as they look nice, thanks for the great meal, etc.  Make each other laugh is another easy way to show your spouse you care.

Little Deeds that make a big difference-Such as writing a love note, bring them their favorite drink, etc

Walk down memory lane- think back to all of the great memories you have together.

Review: This book is such a great reminder of all of the ways you can make your marriage better and stronger. I could relate to the whole book. Marriage is a lot of work and your spouse’s happiness is intertwined with yours. The little deeds you do for your spouse make them feel loved and to tell my spouse that I love him more often. There are definitely tough days but I am going to try to focus on all of the positives and think back to why I married my spouse in the first place.  I will be going back and reading this book often and completing the action steps and repeating them.
