Tips for choosing less toxic health & beauty products

Stay Connected

I have been researching and switching out my health and beauty products to less toxic products. I have noticed in the last year that a lot of companies are revamping their products and removing a lot of the bad ingredients like parabens and phthalates, just to name a couple. There are also so many great resources that you can use to check how your product rates, they are listed below.

Think Dirty app-you can either type the name of the product or use the barcode and it will rate your product by the ingredients. The lower the number the better. I usually try to only buy products that are 5 and under on the think dirty app. The higher number products can have ingredients that can cause long term health effects.

EWG Skin Deep app– EWG stands for Environmental Working Group. I really like this app you can click on EWG verified and it will tell you products that they have researched and they feel is safer to use.  It is a fast way to find less toxic cosmetics, you can also scan the barcode or type in the product name and it will give you rating. The lower the number the better.

Leaping Bunny-it is a cruelty-free certification for personal care and household items. The thing I love about this one is that there is a symbol on the products that they have certified. I will put a picture below so you know what it looks like or you can check out the website. You can click on shopping guide on the website and see the brands.

I didn’t switch all of my products at once, that would have been too expensive, what I did is after I used up a product I looked for a better option and then slowly switched them out. I am going to post a picture just to give you some ideas and to see what products I use. I will also provide some links under the picture to help you find some of the products. Target has been doing a great job at bringing more natural products in their stores, so that has been nice instead of having to order products online and have to worry about shipping costs.

The Everyone brand products I picked up at Natural Grocers but you can get them at Walmart or on Walmart’s website.

Have a great day.
