we turn the heat down at night and pile on the blankets. we bought a “monster” power strip for our television, ps3 system, direct tv box: whenever the tv goes off, all the other ones do automatically. in stores, i always look at the clearance. I stock up whenevr possible. although buying 4 boxes of pasta at one time for two people sounds like a lot, pasta lasts for ages on the shelf so it just makes sense.

i also give things i get for free or really cheap to my family if i do not use them: feminine products that i have too much of, a certain coffee i didn’t like, or shampoos that i have to much of. that way, when i need something that i can’t find a coupon for or can’t afford to spend the money, they usually help me out.

My daughter loves pizza, but ordering pizza get super expensive, so when I go grocery shopping, I get the most inexpensive frozen pizza they have (usually around $2.50, less with a coupon) and keep it in my deep freezer. Then, when I need a quick dinner, or we feel like pizza, we can have it without worrying about how much it’ll cost.

I save money by cutting out every last thing that we don’t need. Literally, we don’t even have cable. We haven’t bought fast food or gone out to eat in over a year, not even the dollar menu. We drink water and milk. If possible, we walk/bike instead of driving. We also reuse as much as possible and plan our meals out the best we can.

One night a week, it’s buffet night. We use a tablecoth, light a candle and warm all the leftovers in the fridge. A little of this and a little bit of that adds up to a buffet at home.

We decided to rent a cheaper house a little outside of town. We don’t spend much extra on gas but save over $200 per month on the rent versus houses in town.

I save money by using the public library. They have dvds, cds, books, and computer games (even wii games) It’s no different than the toy store because by the time that the book is due, my kids have forgotten about it.

One way I save my family money is by never shopping from the regular racks for clothing. I find that I can get cheaper prices on clothes for my children from department stores than from Walmart by shopping in this fashion.
